Pediatric Acupuncture

When most people picture acupuncture, they imagine adults seeking relief from back pain or stress. But a growing body of research — and a growing community of families — is discovering that this ancient practice can be powerfully beneficial for children too.

Pediatric acupuncture is the application of traditional acupuncture principles to the care of infants, children, and adolescents. Rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), acupuncture works by stimulating specific points on the body to encourage the natural flow of energy, called Qi, and to support the body's own healing mechanisms.

Needles used for children are much finer than those used for adults, insertions are shallower and held for shorter periods. There are also effective needle-free techniques that can be used.

"Children often respond more quickly and deeply to acupuncture than adults — their systems are more dynamic, and their bodies tend to recalibrate with less intervention."
