What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate the body's natural healing abilities. Acupuncture is based on the belief that an energy, or “life force,” flows through the body in channels called meridians. This is known as Qi. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that when Qi is depleted or does not flow freely through the body, illness can prevail. Acupuncture is an effective treatment for a variety of different health conditions.  Studies have shown it is an effective treatment for chronic pain, hormone imbalance, stress reduction, fertility health, immune dysregulation, and mental/emotional health.

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine is a patient-centered approach to healthcare that focuses on identifying and treating the root causes of disease, rather than just treating symptoms. It is a holistic form of medicine that recognizes how imbalances in one area of the body affect it as a whole.  It combines conventional medicine with natural therapeutics such as diet, botanical medicine, homeopathy, nutritional supplementation, and lifestyle modifications. Functional medicine recognizes that each patient is an individual, and takes that individuality into account to determine the best treatment plan for each person.
